For Luc Besson’s LUCY, Ben Mauro contributed to the early visual development and concept design of the film’s futuristic and biological elements. Working closely with the director, he helped explore how the story’s central idea—human evolution and the unlocking of the mind’s full potential—could be expressed through visual design.
His work focused on creating believable scientific concepts that felt both grounded and otherworldly, designing everything from advanced technology and interface systems to surreal visualizations of neural transformation and futuristic computer at the end of the film. These designs helped establish the tone for the film’s shift from action thriller to metaphysical science fiction that became very influential in the design industry for its originality.
